Harlan K. Peterson, 44, pleaded guilty in August 2011 to one count of theft of government funds. A former Customs and Border Protection mission support specialist assigned as a vehicle control officer for the Blaine Sector, Peterson was entrusted with government credit cards to pay for expenses associated with servicing government vehicles. Starting in January 2010 and continuing until May 2011, Peterson used government credit cards to repair and service his own vehicles and those that belonged to others. He also submitted forged paperwork to conceal the misuse of government funds, which totaled about $4,400. He also used the government credit card to pay for gas for his personal vehicle. He is awaiting sentencing.
